Watch servicing

A mechanical watch deserves more than just routine maintenance. It deserves a complete overhaul, respectful of its history and its mechanics.

At Le Garde Temps, servicing is not an additional service; it is the core of our business. Every watch we offer for sale passes through our hands before being listed online, and we apply the same care to the watches entrusted to us.

What a revision includes
  • Complete disassembly of the movement
  • Elma rotary cleaning machine with professional solvents
  • Lubrication with Moebius oils according to the caliber's recommendations
  • Adjusting the timegrapher's step
  • Amplitude and power reserve control
  • Reassembly and final inspection

We work exclusively on vintage mechanical and automatic watches. Please allow 4 to 8 weeks depending on the caliber and parts availability, and no work will begin without prior approval of the quote.

Quartz watch

Battery, movement and glass

A battery-powered watch that stops isn't a lost watch. Battery, seal, movement, or crystal—every component can be replaced.

In most cases, a new battery, a replaced gasket, and a check of the clasp are enough to get a watch working again. When the movement is truly beyond repair, we replace it with an equivalent caliber, keeping the original dial, hands, and case.

Routine interventions
  • Battery replacement and seal replacement
  • Replacing the movement with an equivalent caliber
  • Needle adjustment and calibration
  • Glass replacement: acrylic, mineral, or sapphire
  • Polishing of acrylic glass when its condition allows

The crystal is chosen based on the diameter and shape measured on the watch. Our stock of vintage parts often allows us to find the original part number rather than a close equivalent.

Custom made

Replacement of housing and mounting ring

A broken case does not condemn the movement it houses. We adapt one to the other.

When a case is too damaged to be kept, or a movement deserves better than the box it is in, we adapt a new case or one from old stock to the existing movement.

A movement almost never fits directly into another case. We therefore create a custom-made casing ring, designed to the exact dimensions of the movement and the case, and then 3D printed. The movement is held securely without any play, and the winding stem lines up perfectly with the crown.

What this allows
  • Saving a movement with a corroded or broken case
  • Adapting a movement to a case of a different reference
  • Catching up on a poorly maintained move in its box
  • Adjust the height and passage of the winding stem

Each circle is calculated from the diameter of the movement, the inner diameter of the case and the available height, then adjusted by trial before final assembly.
